They are a family who loves God and reflects their love through the messages in their music which ranges from gospel/hip hop, worship, and upbeat, positive music.
Team Smith currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama, which is the city where Toris was born and raised. Toris and Sharmene met at their mutual friends’ wedding where they began dating in November 2011 and shortly married in April 2012. They formed the group shortly thereafter, while ministering at their local church where Sharmene served as praise and worship leader and Toris as the men’s ministry leader. In September 2016, they released their first single, “Transform” which is off of their upcoming album which will have the same name, which will be released in early 2017.
Toris Smith (Da Promise) is a Birmingham native who began his ministry as a gospel hip hop artist when he was 25 years old. He was one third of Birmingham based group, SPG (Da Seed, Da Promise, Da Gift). SPG ministered all over the southeastern region at various churches and events. They released two separate albums, Ghetto Righteous and SPG during their tenure as a group. Notable songs off of those albums highlighting Da Promise as a solo artist are “That’s the Way It’s Supposed to Go”, “Let It Rain”, and “He Back”. Da Promise took a hiatus from music until he met his wife, Sharmene and they began ministry together.
Sharmene Smith (Shar) is a native of Savannah, Georgia and Oceanside, California which is where she began ministry as a young girl. She would participate in various choirs and youth programs at her local churches. She discovered her love for song writing at the age of 19 and wrote several songs (Alabaster Box and Arise) for women’s conference at her church. She also began ministry on her praise and worship team during this same period, which would carry to other ministries, where she was stationed during her career as a federal employee. Upon relocating to Birmingham, Sharmene rekindled her love for song writing, where she helped co-write “Transform” which was released in September 2016.
Together with their 8 year old son, who was 3 when they met, the mission of Team Smith is to touch and change lives for the Kingdom of God through music and lifestyle
